Boots Fat Control
Boots Fat Control diet pill is claimed to reduce the amount of dietary fat that is absorbed by the body. A full ingredients list is however not provided.
Below we have reviewed Boots Fat Control against our review criteria to help consumers make an informed decision.
Boots Fat Control Pros
- Sold by Boots, an established store in the UK
- Very little information given on the product, including no information about ingredients and no clinical studies
Boots Fat Control Review
Boots Fat Control is made by the high street retailer and is claimed to bind to fat molecules, preventing them from being absorbed by the body. There is no official website for this product other than a page with limited information on the Boots website where the diet pill is sold.
Claimed weight loss benefits
Boots Fat Control claims to help bind to fat that is consumed in the diet, making it too large to be absorbed through the intestines into the body, and therefore forcing it to be excreted naturally in the stool.
How Boots Fat Control Works
Since there is no official website for the product there is really only the product information part of the buying page that gives any sort of information on what the product does and how it works. While it does not mention any of the usual keywords such as appetite suppression or metabolism boosting, it is thought primarily to work as a fat binding diet pill.
The official description says that it “Contains a patented fibre complex of organic plant source.” Certain fibres may be used in diet pills to bind to fat particles and to make those fat particles larger and therefore harder to digest. The fat supposedly becomes too large to digest and the body’s reaction to this is to simply flush it out through bowel movements. WebMD looks at how fibre helps weight loss here.
This is effectively all the information on the product the customer is given. It says that the tablets should be taken alongside dieting and exercise but that is it, there is no evidence or proof that the product works or any more detailed description of how the Boots Fat Control tablets work. Even the usage description is brief, simply saying ”Take after each main meal. Take two or three tablets or if having a high fat meal, take three to four tablets.”
The description from Boots mentions a “fibre complex” this suggests the pill could also have an element of appetite suppression mixed together with fat binding. High amounts of fibre in the body can be very beneficial, it helps to keep the bowels healthy, it helps to lower cholesterol, it can also help to regulate blood sugar levels.
When you eat high fibre foods you may feel fuller and as a result don’t feel the need to eat more, this reduces your calorie intake. However as the exact information about the fibre type (either soluble or insoluble) is not given by Boots nor is the amount of fibre contained in a tablet, it’s very difficult to say whether it will have an effect on the user in this case.
Key Boots Fat Control Ingredients
Once again there is not a great deal of information given about the ingredients. No quantities are released and there is no explanation of how each one works or even how the main ingredients work. The main ingredient is the patented fibre complex of organic plant source but we are not told if it has a name or how much of it is included so no idea of the effectiveness or the safety of it.
The other ingredients are merely listed, no quantities, descriptions or information on what they do is told. The list includes microcrystalline cellulose, calcium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate, silica, povidone magnesium stearate. These are not active ingredients for weight loss.
Boots provides only a very brief description of the product, which does not include any key information such as ingredients and other vital details.
There is a lack of evidence provided by Boots to support their dietary supplement – more specifically, there is a lack of links to any form of clinical study. This is not uncommon with dietary supplements; the next best thing would be to see what clinical studies there are on the tablets main ingredients. Therein lies our problem with Boots; we don’t know the main ingredients and in fact we know very little at all about this product.
Boots Fat Control Side Effects
Without knowing more about the ingredients and the amounts of each one it is difficult to predict exactly what kind of side effects might be experienced. Usually with fat binding products you run the risk of experiencing stomach pains, problems with bowel movements and constipation or diarrhoea, which is what one Boots Fat Control review mentioned. Knowing so little information about the product and with its apparent lack of tests or trials means predicting how strong or how many side effects you may see is very difficult.
There are almost no reported side effects for the Boots fat control pill from customers, however there have been a number of reviews claiming that the tablets are ineffective.
Fibre may cause mild gastro-intestinal problems, but is unlikely to cause severe side effects. If you experience any severe or prolonged side effects from taking the Boots Fat Burner product, we would recommend that you stop taking the product and consult a healthcare professional.
How to Use
The brief product description and instructions provided by Boots states that as long as over the age of 18, you are eligible to give the fat binding supplements a go. It is also recommended that the pills should be “used as part of a reduced calorie diet together with appropriate levels of physical exercise and lifestyle changes to help you lose weight and prevent or treat obesity”. This is pretty much the standard advice when taking any dietary supplements.
The instructions provided state that a user of the Boots fat control tablets should take “two or three tablets or if having a high fat meal, take three to four tablets”. The instructions later go on to say that the user should take the tablets for “6 months or until a “weight loss target [is] reached”. Boots make it clear when to take the pills, how many to take, how long to take them for.
Who Makes It?
The big high street name, Boots, make Boots Fat Control and as such it is only available in their stores or their online website.
Boots were founded in Nottingham in 1849 by Mr John Boot, the company stayed, for the most part, in the family’s hands for 70 years as it developed into the well known, high-street pharmaceutical company it is today. The company is well known for backing the development of the painkilling drug Ibuprofen in the 1960’s.
The company never strayed too far from its Nottinghamshire roots; setting up the Boots Charitable trust a fund to help registered charities benefitting the people of Nottingham. The company also still owns its original estate in the Nottingham area, which houses a number of listed buildings. Despite its massive exponential growth Boots has been able to hang on to some of its original high street charm making it household name across the UK.
The manufacturer of this product is a reputable and well-known brand – Boots Pharmaceuticals. There is a clear port-of-call if a customer was to have any issues with a product and that is one of 2,500 stores nationwide. This rules out the all too common occurrence of having to speak down a phone at a supplier or via email to get your money back. Instead you speak to store personal in the flesh.
On top of this, there is a very clear refund and customer service policy applied to all stores put in place to keep the customer happy and to protect their consumer rights. Boots is also a registered British company meaning it has to comply with British manufacturing and pharmaceutical practices.
