Cellan is advertised as a weight loss pill that targets several key areas of weight loss. The product is however sold using a ‘free trial scam’.
Below we have reviewed Cellan against our review criteria to help consumers make an informed decision.
- Contains studied ingredients such as ECGC
- Not associated with severe side effects for most people
- Free trial soon turns to a monthly charge if not cancelled
- No ingredients list or information on how to use the product
Cellan Free Trial Auto-billing Warning
A quick warning before we go any further: we’ve had a large number of consumer reports stating that the Cellan product auto-enrols you in to a recurring billing agreement. This means you are “given” a free sample and provide your Credit Card details to pay a small “shipping charge” only to find your credit card is billed monthly thereafter unless you cancel.
In some cases you are also charged for the “free” sample if you do not call up and return the sample product.
Cellan’s PR department claims that they make it easy to cancel and that they will provide you with a refund if you call their customer support number.

Cellan is said to aid weight loss in several different ways. There are however a large number of complaints associated with Cellan from people who say that they were automatically enrolled in an auto-billing programme after ordering the free trial. In many cases, the consumers claim they found it impossible to cancel their subscription after the trial expired, resulting in large monthly charges to their credit cards which could not be refunded unless they were able to do so directly through their bank.
Cellan’s PR department has responded by claiming that these reviews are not representative of how the company operates today. They claim that Cellan makes it easy to cancel and that they will provide you with a refund if you call their customer support number.
Claimed weight loss benefits
The manufacturers of Cellan claim that it works in three different ways: that it prevents carbohydrates from being broken down and stored, that it boosts the release of fat from your fat cells, and that it oxidises fat to burn it. This means that the claims for weight loss are through fat burning, metabolism boosting, and carbohydrate blocking, with no mention of appetite suppression and also no diet plan to accompany the pills.
How Cellan Works
According to the manufacturers, there are a number of ingredients at work that help to cause the weight loss effects. The product as a whole is said to help to burn fat, boost the metabolism, and prevent carbohydrates from being stored in the body. They do not however provide scientific evidence to back up these claims.
The first and perhaps the most important is ECGC extract, or in other words green tea, which they say will increase fat burning by up to 33%. Then there is vitamin C, which will supposedly help prevent your metabolism from slowing down, and also vitamin B3, which is claimed to convert carbohydrates into energy rather than allowing them to be stored as fat. Finally, there is a berry blend made up of blueberry and blackberry extracts as well as raspberry ketones, which they say will have antioxidant effects.
Key Cellan Ingredients
It is very difficult to find a full list of ingredients for Cellan as the manufacturers have not published one online, and it is not possible to purchase the supplement anywhere else. However, the ingredients that we could find mention of were as follows: ECGC Extract, which is part of green tea extract and is thought to be the part of it which is mostly responsible for any weight loss effects; Vitamin C; Vitamin B3; and a berry blend.
EGCG (Green Tea Extract)
EGCG is short for epigallocatechin gallate – a chemical that is found in green tea extract. Green tea is made from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant and its extract is often used in traditional Chinese medicine. The substance is believed to have several benefits for general health, including the potential to aid fat burning and metabolism boosting.
Most people get plenty of vitamin C from their diet. It is required by the human body for a number of general functions, including, for example, maintenance of the immune system. Though not commonly found in weight loss supplements, vitamin C has been associated with weight loss in the past.
This berry blend is said on the official website to include extracts from blackberries and blueberries, as well as raspberry ketones. Blackberries and blueberries act as antioxidants, but are not thought to have any direct effects on weight loss. Raspberry ketones on the other hand have been claimed to target weight loss by increasing the process of fat burning.
As with most supplements, there have not been any clinical trials that we can discover done with Cellan itself, so instead we can look at the ingredients that make it up to get a clearer idea. These ingredients were taken from one of the sites that sells Cellan as it is difficult to find a full ingredients list, so it may be necessary to check the bottle more carefully for the list if you do purchase them yourself.
EGCG (Green Tea Extract)
Green tea extract is one of the elements that has commonly been said to help with weight loss. The ECGC extract in particular which is used here has been found to be somewhat effective when it comes to weight loss, but the studies have indicated that it is not helpful at all for then keeping the weight off. This means that the long-term effects leave something to be desired.
Vitamin C is one of the ingredients included in the online list, and this is one of the essential vitamins that we are always being told to eat more of. Alongside many potential health benefits such as the prevention of scurvy and boosting the immune system, it has also been found to help prevent lung problems with those who exercise frequently, which will be helpful for those who are looking to stick to a healthy diet and exercise plan.
Vitamin B3 is something that has been suggested to have some effects on the levels of triglycerides, a certain type of fat, in the blood; however, it has to be noted that there is not yet any evidence discovered that it will have any beneficial effects on fats such as those that might lead to weight loss.
There is not yet any evidence that blueberry, or blackberry will help you to lose weight in any way; however there is some research available when it comes to raspberry, with raspberry ketones being used in a lot of weight loss supplements at the moment because some early evidence suggests that they will decrease body fat and weight by increasing fat burning. However, this is preliminary evidence only which was found in small studies, and so it is necessary for more research to be done on a wider scale before we can be certain about the effects that raspberry ketones have and how the berry mix in this supplement will give a boost to weight loss for those who are taking it.
Cellan Side Effects
There are a number of side effects associated with the various ingredients in Cellan. These include nausea, stomach upsets, constipation, headaches, sleep loss, nervousness and irritability, irregular heartbeats, heartburn, dizziness, confusion, vomiting, kidney stones, diarrhoea, gas, mouth pain, and a flushing reaction. Some of these are more serious than others and the berry-based ingredients are largely fine for consumption at these dosages, though it should be noted that not much research has been done into raspberry ketones as they are something that we know much about yet. This means that there may be side effects associated with them that we do not know about.
EGCG (Green Tea Extract)
Green tea has some side effects which are well known; these include an upset stomach or constipation, liver problems, jitteriness, sleep loss, headaches, vomiting, confusion, irritability, heart palpitations, heartburn, dizziness, and ringing in the ears. Those who have a low tolerance for caffeine may experience issues more than others.
Vitamin C appears to be a key ingredient in the product, and the side effects here are normally safe for most people. However, in some cases it may be possible to experience nausea and vomiting, heartburn, stomach cramps, and headaches even at a normal dose. At a higher dose, for example if you take more pills per day than you are advised to, you may experience kidney stones, diarrhoea, and an even higher risk of getting kidney stones if you have had them previously.
As for Vitamin B3, a common side effect is a flushing reaction: this may involve burning, tingling, itching, and redness on certain areas of the skin, and headaches, particularly when combined with alcohol. Other side effects may include an upset stomach, gas, dizziness, mouth ache, and an irregular heartbeat.
Raspberry ketones have not been properly explored for use in humans, and this is certainly a serious concern which is associated with them. One thing that has been discovered in studies before is the possibility of a shaky or jittery feeling, as well as heart palpitations.
How to Use
Though we normally would include the advice of the manufacturer as to how to take one of their diet pill supplements, it is very difficult to find any of this information for Cellan. Although all of the various sites which have been set up to sell the free trials of Cellan note that you will receive bottles with thirty days’ worth of pills every time, nowhere does it so much as state how many this is, let alone when and how you should take them. This means that we are unable to offer any advice in this area, and also means that you should certainly be careful if you take Cellan to read any instructions that come with it.
You should not take this diet pill if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. In addition, those with underlying conditions or who are already taking another form of medication should seek medical advice before taking diet pills to ensure that they will not experience serious reactions as a result of the interference that the ingredients could create.
Who Makes It?
The company that makes Cellan is very tricky to track down. In many cases where you find a diet pill that is part of a scam to get credit card details and send unauthorised charges, there will be a company set up in the name of the product itself in order to distance it from the people who are really behind it. This seems to be the case with Cellan, as any interactions with customer service come from “Cellan Customer Service” rather than an actual manufacturing company.
Looking at the terms and conditions, however, there is some mention of a Scottish company known as Tekoa LP. The Cellan address is a postal box, but Tekoa LP can be traced to an address in Aberdeen, which means that they are at least somewhat contactable. However, not much information is available about them either: they are a somewhat new company, having only been registered in June 2013, and they have not yet filed any financial reports or listed a director. This means that they are largely unaccountable for the scam that they are running as yet, and it is not clear if they are part of a larger organisation.
Where to Buy Cellan
If you are looking to get your hands on some Cellan, then you have just one option. Rather than buying from a shop or using a site that is well known such as Amazon, you have to start off with the free trial, which is offered by the company that makes the supplement through a number of similar websites. In all instances you are warned that you may be charged up to $7.95 (£4.75) for delivery, and that you will be facing charges of around $99 (£59) each month after that until you cancel your order.
It seems as though a lot of different people have had difficulty with cancelling the free trial after receiving the pills, either because they could not get in touch with the company to cancel or because they were not told about certain stipulations; a look at the terms and conditions is always essential in this kind of circumstance, as you will often see unfavourable points there that will make it difficult to stop the payments from going ahead.
If you are receiving unwanted charges to your credit card from Cellan, make sure that you call either your bank or your credit card company and tell them that you did not authorise the payment and that you wish for it to be cancelled. You may have as little as sixty days to do this when it comes to your bank, though the credit card period is normally a little bit longer. Make sure that you do not delay in requesting your refund as this could prevent you from receiving it at all.
Does Cellan Meet our Approved Criteria

One-off payment: The product appears to be sold using a free trial scam whereby customers are automatically charged £59 a month.
Manufacturing Standard: There is no mention of manufacturing standards.
Accompanying Diet Plan: There does not appear to be an accompanying diet plan.
Ingredients and quantities disclosed: A full ingredients list is not provided.
Company contact details readily available: Full contact details are not provided on the official website.
Cellan does not meet our ‘Approved’ criteria as there is no money-back guarantee or diet plan and the product is sold using a free trial scam. Some information is lacking from the official website, including manufacturing details, a full ingredients list, and company contact details.
There are a large number of negative consumer reviews of the way the product is sold via an auto-billing scheme, meaning you must cancel and return you trial bottle to ensure you are not billed more than you originally paid. Some important information is also lacking from the official website, including an ingredients list and information on how to use the product. Some of the ingredients have shown promise for weight loss in early trials, though none have been conclusively proven to aid weight loss. Side effects of the disclosed ingredients are unlikely to be severe, although without a full ingredients list or ingredient quantities we cannot state with certainty that the product will be safe.Google+
