Clenburexin is a product from Trec Nutrition, based between USA and Poland. The product comes in pill form, and is marketed as a thermogenic fat burner. The product is available in the UK and many other European countries. The product as a whole has not been clinically tested, though some of its ingredients have been suggested to work to boost weight loss.
Claimed weight loss benefits
The product description on the Trec Nutrition website claims that Clenburexin acts as a thermogenic fat burner, which increases metabolism and appetite suppressing processes. It does not claim to block carbohydrates and does not come with a diet plan.
How Clenburexin Works
Clenburexin claims to work by ‘exhibiting thermogenic activity’, using vitamins and stimulating substances to ‘increase metabolism and appetite suppressing processes’. The product description states that the increased metabolism will burn more calories in less time, even when resting. This supposedly causes faster weight loss and fat loss.
A thermogenic substance is a chemical that causes energy produced through respiration to be released as heat rather than ATP, a chemical, which drives muscle contraction and many other processes in the body. In turn, this causes the metabolic rate to be greater, due to the shorter chain of reactions.
Clenburexin contains many different types of ingredients. These ingredient types predominantly include substances that are believed to be thermogenic and act as appetite suppressants.
Cayenne pepper, black pepper, Yerba Mate, and L-Tyrosine are all thought to have thermogenic properties. Thermogenesis is the process of producing heat energy rather than energy for any other purpose or storing energy as fat molecules. Increasing the level of thermogenesis in the body might aid weight loss because it could result in more energy being released as heat rather than stored in fat. This might also in turn result in an increase in metabolic rate, because there is less ‘oxidative phosphorylation’ carried out in respiration.
Key Clenburexin Ingredients
The Polish website for Clenburexin provides a list of active ingredients. The ingredients include: green coffee extract, green tea extract, L-tyrosine, yerba mate extract, caffeine anhydrous, ginger root extract, cayenne pepper extract, and black pepper extract.
Cayenne pepper, black pepper, and other similar spicy foods are often hailed as thermogenic substances, and so this is in keeping with the claims about Clenburexin as a thermogenic diet pill. More about this can be found in our capsicum article. Other possible thermogenic ingredients include L-tyrosine and green tea. Green coffee, and its key component, chlorogenic acid, is often described as a fat burning substance.
As is common in the over-the-counter diet pill industry, Trec Nutrition has released no clinical data relating specifically to their own product. This means that there is no record of whether the contents of Clenburexin act as they are claimed to in combination, in the particular ratio found in Clenburexin. However, there have been independent studies carried out on some of the ingredients found in Clenburexin, listed on the Trec Nutrition website as being active ingredients.
Cayenne pepper, or more specifically, the key chemicals in cayenne pepper – capsaicinoids, has been subject to some clinical study with regards to weight loss. A meta-analysis, published in 2012, reviewed a selection of studies on the topic to date. It was found from the results of these trials that capsaicin might have a beneficial effect on energy expenditure, fat burning, and appetite suppression. As such, it was concluded that whilst it is not a ‘magic bullet for weight loss’, the ingredient might provide a slight benefit.
Caffeine is present in its raw form in Clenburexin, as well as within yerba mate, green tea extract, and green coffee bean extract. A clinical study was carried out on caffeine to assess its effect on metabolic rate. The result was essentially that a significant effect was seen after taking caffeinated coffee and then a meal on ‘thermic effect’ and metabolic rate. More information can be found in our Yerba Mate article. Due to the effect of caffeine on heart rate, and the presence of both raw caffeine and yerba mate in Clenburexin, we recommend that nobody with heart conditions take Clenburexin before first consulting your doctor on whether the product is suitable for you.
Clenburexin Side Effects
There is very little information provided on the Trec Nutrition website regarding possible side effects, however, there are a number of key ingredients that have possible side effects. For example, overdosing on caffeine can cause negative effects such as irregular heartbeat. Cayenne pepper can cause stomach irritation and upset.
Cayenne pepper is thought to be likely safe for consumption in small quantities in the short-term, though it might not be safe for consumption in the long-term or in high doses. The ingredient is capable of exhibiting some side effects, though these are indeed mild in nature. These include irritation, rashes and skin allergies amongst some individuals. It can also at times cause a burning sensation amongst certain people.
Caffeine is well known to increase resting heart rate. Overdosing on caffeine will cause heart palpitations and an irregular heartbeat. This is especially dangerous if you have a heart defect of any description. There is an especially large amount of caffeine in Clenburexin because not only does it contain caffeine as an individual ingredient, but many of the other ingredients contain even more caffeine, such as green coffee and green tea, and yerba mate. For this reason if you feel for any reason that taking too much caffeine will impact greatly on you individually then you must consult your doctor before beginning to take Clenburexin. Caffeine can also cause jitteriness, anxiety, insomnia, nausea, and headaches, amongst other side effects.
How to Use
Clenburexin is recommended to be taken four times a day, two capsules before your first training session or meal and another two before your second meal. You take Clenburexin before your meals as the supplement is intended to be taken on an empty stomach and you are advised to wash down the capsules with 300ml of water. According to the website, the product has stimulating effects and it is suggested you do not take it before you go to bed. Because of the stimulating effect, we would recommend anyone with difficulty sleeping to take this supplement with caution.
Clenburexin is designed to be taken as part of a healthy balanced diet with controlled calorie intake alongside a regular fitness routine. We always recommend you consult your doctor before taking or purchasing any diet pills. We especially advise people with any heart conditions to seek medical advice due to the caffeine content.
