Garcinia Cambogia Burn
Garcinia Cambogia Burn is described by the manufacturers, Vivid Health Nutrition (VHN), as an appetite suppressor, metabolism booster, fat production inhibitor and mood booster. These effects are attributed to its main ingredient, garcinia cambogia, a tropical fruit long marketed as a ‘weight-loss miracle’. With strong scientific evidence to suggest it has weight-loss associated effects in rodents, but very little to suggest it works in humans, Garcinia Cambogia Burn could simply be another ineffective product backed by pseudoscience. However, user reviews of garcinia cambogia products are often positive.
This review looks at Garcinia Cambogia Burn’s effectiveness, value for money and safety, and also advises on the best way to avoid side-effects and where to get Garcinia Cambogia Burn for the lowest price.

Garcinia Cambogia Burn Review
Claimed weight loss benefits
The manufacturers claim that Garcinia Cambogia Burn causes the production of serotonin, a neurotransmitter (a chemical acting in the nerves), which is associated with decreased hunger levels and improved mood. Through this mechanism they claim that it acts as an appetite suppressor and anti-depressant, helping prevent cravings. They also claim that Garcinia cambogia’s high concentration of hydroxycitric acids (HCAs) help prevent the conversion of carbohydrate to fat, citing a study in which the subjects saw increased resting metabolic rate with no negative side-effects to support this claim. Unfortunately, they have not provided any links to this study. They make no comment about the 50 milligrams of potassium present in every capsule. They also suggest it can help lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels

How Garcinia Cambogia Burn Works
A high percentage of Garcinia cambogia’s dry weight is hydroxycitric acids; in wild fruit, between 10 and 30% is a typical figure. HCAs are slightly altered forms of citric acid, which have had an additonal hyroxyl group added to the central carbon atom. Hydoxycitric acids have many weight loss effects associated with them, and have been proven to prevent re-uptake of serotonin in rat brains by up to 20%; they have not been shown to increase serotonin production, only continue its circulation in the blood.
Serotonin inhibits the activity of dopamine, the neurotransmitter which causes the body to feel hungry. HCAs inhibit the receptors which cause reuptake of serotonin, causing consistent appetite suppression. These results have not been replicated in humans however. Another effect HCAs have been shown to cause in rodents is prevention of fatty acid synthesis. They inhibit the enzyme associated with formation of fatty acids (which are used to make fat in the body); again, this result has yet to be replicated in humans. HCAs have also been shown to help decrease weight regain in rats that were starved, particularly those which were fed high-fat-and-sugar diets, however, the dosages used were much higher than those which would ever be found in a supplement. In humans, no studies of HCA or Garcinia cambogia supplementation have ever shown significantly more weight loss than the placebo group; one study on a group of overweight adults, conducted over a twelve week period, found no differences compared to placebo despite heavy dosages of Garcinia cambogia. This severely reduces the likelihood that Garcinia Cambogia Burn will be an effective weight loss supplement. However, it also contains potassium, and the effects of potassium and Garcinia cambogia supplementation together have not been tested extensively, so this could be a source of unexpected effectiveness.

Key Garcinia Cambogia Burn Ingredients
The only active ingredient is Garcinia cambogia. There have been many studies of Garcinia cambogia and its active ingredient HCA in rodents, often with positive effects. One recent study saw two groups of obesity prone mice being fed high fat diets for sixteen weeks, with or without a daily Garcinia cambogia supplement, to observe the effects on total food consumption and weight loss throughout the trial. The results showed that Garcinia cambogia hadn’t shown any weight loss effects, but that the levels of fat in the organs (visceral fat) and the size of the adipocytes (fat cells) had decreased. The fatty acid synthase enzyme had been inhibited, which was also observed in the above trial. This is a good start for severely overweight individuals, but doesn’t offer much for people looking to tone.
HCA’s have many more studies available, one of the most significant being the serotonin study above; this was supported by another 90 day study in which rats were treated with HCAs or placebo whilst on a calorie-restricted diet. The rats treated with 2% HCA as their food intake saw an average 26.7% reduced total food intake on a daily basis. This is a very large dosage never found in supplements however.
HCAs have also been shown to be a powerful inhibitor of the fatty acid synthase enzyme; in vitro studies of mitochondria within rat liver cells, after the rats had consumed high sugar diets for 10 days, found that at relatively low concentrations HCAs could inhibit the enzyme by up to 50%, causing the glucose to be stored as carbohydrate instead. Weight regain in starved rats was also shown to be attenuated when Garcinia cambogia was supplemented; four groups of rats were starved for 10 days, then fed one of several diets containing different concentrations of fats and glucose. As stated above, Garcinia cambogia was found to significantly reduce food intake compared to the control groups; whilst not strictly a weight loss study, this does suggest continued Garcinia cambogia supplementation could help maintain weight after the user finishes dieting. However, few studies have ever shown similar effects in humans.

|Weight Loss Power:||20/100|
No studies have ever shown Garcinia cambogia to be an effective weight loss supplement in humans. Whilst other Garcinia cambogia supplements have positive user reviews to back them up, Garcinia Cambogia Burn has almost none, and those are too vague to be very reliable. The dosages used in studies of rodents are simply too high to be reliably extrapolated to supplementary use, so Garcinia Cambogia Burn scores low on weight loss power.
|Speed of results:||5/100|
It’s impossible to say how fast results will be achieved since it’s likely no results will occur at all. Users tend to state results within a few weeks, but since these users also claim to have been dieting and exercising one cannot tell what the cause was. Users should expect to see noticeable results, if they occur at all, within a month; otherwise, abandon use of the product.
Again, the lack of human studies hurts this point, but the science appears sound; affecting serotonin levels (over time) definitely appears to be an effect, and this would certainly help decrease appetite. In higher dosages, the effect would be much more noticeable, but Garcinia Cambogia Burn still may help alleviate hunger a little; the reviews certainly support this guess.
|Long Term Results:||30/100|
Again, very difficult to judge, but the weight-gain-attenuation study in rats suggests it may be able to limit weight gain after dieting, and there is no reason to believe it should not continue to work. There doesn’t appear to be any side-effects of long-term use either. Still not as effective as other weight loss supplements like Appesat or Activ8.
Basically there are no side-effects and few very cases of toxicity or mortality, even at extremely high doses. Rats fed up to 5% of their bodyweight in Garcinia cambogia daily showed no signs of illness, and there are very few complaints of side-effects in the customer reviews of other Garcinia cambogia supplements. It’s still worth limiting the initial dosage to test for any problems though.
|Value for money:||50/100|
When following the suggested dosage, Amazon.com make Garcinia Cambogia Burn exceptionally good value for money, with over a month’s supply costing less than £20. However, the manufacturers sell it slightly more expensively, and considering how little evidence there is that it works, a higher dosage is likely needed, meaning a lot more money.
Garcinia Cambogia Burn Side Effects
One of Garcinia Cambogia Burn’s biggest selling points is that it has almost no associated side-effects, mostly because it doesn’t appear to have any sort of effects in humans. Studies on rats have revealed no toxicological effects in dosages of up to 5 grams per kilogram of bodyweight, and another study on the effects of Garcinia cambogia on organs, fat oxidation and brain weight similarly revealed no effects. Studies on bacteria suggested Garcinia cambogia could cause DNA mutation, but these results have never been reliably replicated in any other organism. Some case studies have shown users of Garcinia cambogia supplements to suffer muscle breakdown and hepatoxicity, but these effects were likely due to the ingredients Garcinia cambogia was combined with, or a scam product. However, it is worth considering that the manufacturer, provide very little information about themselves and that their product doesn’t appear to have been reviewed by an external board like the Food and Drug Administration. This means that Garcinia Cambogia Burn could be less pure than they claim, and this could mean the inclusion of ingredients which, whilst not dangerous, could cause allergic reactions in certain users. Always consult a doctor if any side-effects become apparent.

Where to Buy Garcinia Cambogia Burn
Garcinia Cambogia Burn appears to only be available through two American retailers. VHN offer a 60 capsule tub for £13.70, not including shipping charges and customs taxes; comparatively, Amazon.com offer a two tub bundle for £17.22, with no shipping charges. Neither company offer reductions on multiple purchases, or any other ways to purchase the product.
Amazon are an extremely well established business with hugely positive customer reviews and a dedicated customer service centre to address all issues; they also offer multiple delivery options and typically offer a 30 day money back guarantee for all unwanted items. VHN have a similar returns policy but are much less reputable, with no customer service phone number and no company history provided. It is strongly recommended to buy from Amazon, as at least then the product is almost guaranteed to arrive; individuals who don’t want more than one tub might consider buying from VHN however.

If you want to know more about Vivid Health Nutrition, then read our article The Company Behind Garcinia Cambogia Burn.
Despite promising studies on rodents, Garcinia cambogia doesn’t have enough evidence in humans to be able to claim it as a weight loss supplement, and therefore Garcinia Cambogia Burn is unlikely to work. User reviews are sparse, and the company extremely suspicious, suggesting Garcinia Cambogia Burn could even be a scam product. Whilst it’s not terrible value for money, there are much better options available, such as Appesat for an appetite suppressor and Activ8 X as a metabolism booster.
