GCBX Review

GCBX is a weight loss supplement that is based primarily on green coffee bean extract, but also contains African mango. The official GCBX website claims that you will experience a number of benefits when you are taking the product. The first claim that the website makes is that you can lose two stone in ten weeks. It is also claimed that the product can maximise weight loss without needing any changes to your diet or exercise regime. Finally, it is claimed on the website that the product has no side effects and no added caffeine. There are however side effects associated with both green coffee bean extract and African mango. There have also been complaints of a ‘free trial scam’ associated with this product.

Claimed weight loss benefits

This product is claimed to help users to lose two stone in ten weeks through its two key ingredients – green coffee bean extract and African mango. The ingredients have been associated with fat burning, though evidence in support of this claim is not strong.

How GCBX Works

woman_measuring_weight_loss_538

GCBX contains two main active ingredients (Green Coffee Bean extract and African Mango) which the product claims can help you lose weight without changing your diet or adding exercise. Information about the exact mechanisms involved in both green coffee bean extract and African mango are unknown at this point in time therefore it is very difficult to describe how these ingredients actually work.

Green Coffee Bean Extract

The first ingredient in the GCBX product is, as the name suggests, Green Coffee Bean extract. The green coffee bean itself has no tangible weight loss benefits; it is rather the chlorogenic acid within the bean itself that is said to be the cause for the green coffee bean being regarded as a potential weight loss ingredient. During the roasting of a coffee bean the chlorogenic acid is lost, which is why green coffee bean is considered a better option in regards to chlorogenic acid amounts. Although there is no concrete evidence, chlorogenic acid has been associated with being able to delay the release of glucose into the bloodstream. This supposedly causes the store of glucose to last longer, giving you the sensation of possessing more energy without needing to eat more food.

African Mango

The second ingredient in the GCBX product is African Mango; this particular ingredient is said predominantly to function by reducing your blood sugar levels. An ingredient that has this ability is classified as possessing hypoglycaemic properties. Whenever we eat food, our body converts the carbohydrates into sugar, the amount of blood sugar your body stores dictates the percentage of fat you store in your body. The claimed benefit of having a low blood sugar level is that insulin levels are reduced; this might have the knock on effect of prompting the body to use a higher percentage of fat to produce energy.

Clinical Studies

Clinical Researcher 538

There are no clinical studies examining the effectiveness of this product, which is very common in the over the counter diet supplement industry. As these supplements are considered ‘food supplements’, the FDA does not regulate the claims that the respective manufacturers make, therefore the only way to truly assess the effectiveness of a product is to examine the clinical studies of each individual ingredient.

Green Coffee Bean Extract

Vinson et al (2012) examined the effectiveness and safety of green coffee bean extract in comparison to a placebo. The study recruited sixteen participants who were split into three separate groups; the first group received 1050mg of green coffee bean extract, the second group received 700mg of green coffee bean extract and the third group received a placebo. The treatments lasted for a total of six weeks, during which time, body weight, BMI and percent body fat were measured. The results of the study indicated that both of the groups who took the green coffee bean extracts experienced a significant reduction in body weight (2.31kg on average), BMI (-2.9) and percent body fat (-2%). This study suggests that green coffee bean extract may play a legitimate role in weight loss products, however further research is needed as the sample size was so small in this particular study. A positive aspect is that no side effects were experienced even with the relatively high dosages of green coffee bean extract.

African Mango

Ngondi et al (2009) examined the effects of African Mango seed extract on weight loss and other associated metabolic factors. The experiment recruited 102 overweight participants who were split into two groups; the first group received a placebo whereas the second group received the African Mango seed extract over a ten-week period. The subjects were told to take the supplement between thirty and sixty minutes before lunch and dinner. At the end of the study, it was discovered that the group who took the African Mango seed extract lost significantly more weight, body fat percentage and waist circumference. It is important to note that dietary intake was not accounted for in this study and may account for some of the variation seen. Having said this, the study does provide results, which indicate that African Mango seeds may provide a legitimate weight loss solution.

GCBX Side Effects

Woman With Stomach Ache 538

The official website states that there are no side effects that are associated with GCBX; it is important to bear in mind that, as a dietary supplement, the claims made by GCBX are not regulated by the FDA. A negative aspect of the official website is that it doesn’t even provide an ingredient list. Due to the lack of any clear ingredient information, we have been able to deduce from a picture that the two main active ingredients in the product are Green Coffee Bean extracts and African Mango.

The side effects associated green coffee beans are primarily associated with the caffeine content. Some side effects, which are quite common, include insomnia, nausea, headaches and increased heart rate. If you are a regular caffeine drinker, then you may not experience these side effects, or they might be less severe. There has been a small selection of side effects that have been reported in association with African Mango intake such as headaches, dry mouth sensation, sleep disturbance and digestive problems.

Green Coffee Bean Extract

Green coffee is a term used to describe coffee beans that have not been roasted into the traditional coffee bean that you may recognise. The side effects associated with green coffee beans are mostly associated with the caffeine content. Some side effects, which are quite common, include insomnia, nausea, headaches and increased heart rate. If you are a regular caffeine drinker, then you may not experience these side effects or at least they will be less severe. Users might also experience high blood pressure and heart rate.

African Mango

African mango is a popular ingredient in modern day diet pills. There has been a small selection of side effects that have been reported in association with African Mango intake such as headaches, dry mouth sensation, sleep disturbance and digestive problems. There is very limited information regarding the relationship between African Mango and prescription medications, however the information that is available does suggest that prescription medications for diabetes and cholesterol control may cause some problems. However, without the precise amounts of each ingredient it is impossible to tell if this can be a cause for concern.

How to Use

Woman With Pills 538

There are no direct usage instructions on the official website; however, directions are posted on the bottle label. The information on the label states that there are sixty capsules along with the amount of ingredients for one single capsule, as the majority of diet products construct a product in such a way that it will last for a month. This information suggests that two tablets should be taken per day. As the product contains caffeine it would be unwise to take this product any time after dinner.

As per usual, you should not consider taking the product if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. There is very little information about the potential of African mango and/or coffee bean extract in relation to negative interactions with medications. If you have any doubts whatsoever, it is best to consult your doctor who can advise you on what action to take.

Who Makes It?

GCBX is a product produced by GCBX who are a company based in Virginia according to analysis of their website address. However, the address of the applicant for this website is based in California. The GCBX product has many different websites associated with it; there are at least four websites. Many consumers have complained about the ‘trial offer’ that is advertised on the Facebook page and on the GCBX websites. The ‘trial offer’ involves paying £5.95 and then a further fee of £80 for the product itself; the problem occurs because customers fail to realise that if they do not cancel the trial within fourteen days of ordering, then you are automatically charged £80 for a second bottle of the product.

The website does offer contact information in the form of an email address, a telephone number and a physical address for returning the product. It is best to use the website with caution and read the terms and conditions extensively; this is where the information about the ‘free trial’ is located.

Where to Buy GCBX

where_to_buy_538

The only way to buy this product is from the official website. The company behind GCBX has come under a lot of criticism for its ‘free trial option’ that is heavily marketed both on the official website and the GCBX Facebook page. From what has been described it appears that you are required to pay a fee of £5.95 for a trial of the product. However, the moment your payment has been processed you have up to fourteen days to cancel your trial otherwise you will be charged £80 on a monthly basis regardless of whether you still want the product. If you do not choose the free trial option then you simply pay £80 plus the £5.95 for postage and packing.

  1. Steve says:

Almost four years ago I received two bottles of GCBX absolutely free. All I provided was an Australian address and they were sent to me. I trialed the first of the two and they did not have as much affect with weight loss, and thought it was a placebo and stopped taking it. I lose more weight through the Monash University FODMAP diet and regular high intense cycling.
