Hoodia Patch Review

It is often difficult to tell the fact from the fiction when it comes to diet pill supplements and treatments, particularly when a large number of companies are saying the same thing at the same time. When a trend appears in the weight loss industry, it is important to pay even more attention to it than normal in order to find out exactly what the truth is behind all of the rumours and marketing spin. In the case of Hoodia Patch, it unfortunately seems that details are a little thin on the ground – as you will see while we examine this product and what it contains.

Claimed weight loss benefits

The claim for this product is a very simple one, and that means that it is much easier to investigate. Out of all of the areas in which supplements can work, this product targets just one – appetite suppression. There is no diet plan included with it and no other effects are suggested by the manufacturers, which would suggest that it would be perfect for anyone who wants to stick to a diet and has difficulty doing so. Our research has not found much evidence to say that appetite suppression really would be the result of using these patches, however, and so we cannot necessarily say that we agree with the claims.

How Hoodia Patch Works

appetite suppressantAccording to the marketing spiel which accompanies the Hoodia Patch, the hoodia ingredient will eliminate hunger, something which it has been used for over generations by tribesmen in the Kalahari Desert. It is thought that it works by making your brain think that you have just eaten, therefore allowing you to feel full for much longer than normal and stopping any hunger cravings from causing you to eat. This is the theory which is behind the hoodia; as for the patch, the idea is that you should be able to absorb the hoodia quickly through your skin, giving you an even and gradual release which works throughout the day.

Unfortunately, we cannot say for sure whether the patch method is effective at helping you to absorb the hoodia through your skin, whether it would have the same effects as hoodia taken orally, or even whether hoodia taken orally would have the desired effect. This is due to a lack of clinical trials which have been carried out, particularly on humans. Before we can say anything for definite about hoodia patches, we need to see more evidence from the scientific community that they will work.

Key Hoodia Patch Ingredients

Hoodia igordonii plantAccording to the packet, the Hoodia Patch is made from one hundred per cent hoodia. Whether this is really the case or whether there might be other ingredients in there is something that is up for speculation, as we have not been able to find any lists on the internet which give us the rundown of what exactly is in this product. This is a problem for several reasons: first of all, we cannot give a full analysis of the ingredients. Secondly, we do not know how the patch is constructed and whether or not there could be potential allergy problems to do with it. Thirdly, we cannot be aware of how effective the patch could be at imparting the ingredients into the skin.

Still, we do know that hoodia is one of the main ingredients. This is a plant found in areas such as the Kalahari Desert, which has been passed down through generations as being a plant which can help stave off hunger. Whether this is true, or simply a natural effect of consuming the plant, remains to be proven. More can be found in our Hoodia Patch Clinical Studies article.

Weight Loss Power: 10/100

The thing about appetite suppressants is that, even if they work, you still have to put in some effort as well. In other words, you need to stick to a diet and lead a healthy lifestyle if you want to see weight loss.
Speed of results: 30/100

The delivery method is not proven, but if the patch does work, then the hoodia will be released into your system on a gradual basis. This approach would lead to a more balanced set of results, taking place over time rather than all at once.
Appetite Suppression: 45/100

Though the clinical evidence is limited, this product does have two things going for it: the suggestion that it has been used for this purpose in tribal medicine, and the placebo effect that those rumours would generate.
Long Term Results: 10/100

Again, results would depend on your own willingness to stick to a sensible diet, ignoring cravings that may arise even when you are not hungry. Long term results and safety have not been explored in clinical trials.
Safety: 10/100

A very limited amount of research has been done into hoodia, and so we simply do not know what kind of side effects it might have, if any. This includes both short term and long term use.
Value for money: 50/100

Despite the fact that there is only really one place where you can buy the patches now, it still comes at a reasonably fair price. The cost for a month’s supply is not far from the general average cost of diet pills in the industry.

Hoodia Patch Side Effects

side effects

One of the areas in which we really wish we could give you more information, but we cannot, is to do with side effects. Here we do not know much at all, as the clinical trials which have been carried out are very limited. One was conducted on animals rather than humans, and another used a small number of participants for a short amount of time. This means that we do not know anything at all about long term use, and we are even in the dark about short term possibilities.

From the evidence of users who have tried the Hoodia Patch for themselves, we can see suggestions of some side effects such as nervousness, tiredness, agitation, and headaches. We do not know how it may affect long term health, or how it may interact with other medications or medical conditions. This means that you could experience any number of a range of side effects, and they would not necessarily be documented alongside those which have already been reported by existing customers.

Where to Buy Hoodia Patch

where to buyThe problem with a product which has been banned from advertising is that it tends to drop away very quickly. Without the ability to advertise or even to claim that their product will help you to lose weight, the manufacturers of the Hoodia Patch very quickly found themselves without an audience. This means that today, it can only be found in a very limited number of places for sale. Outside of the usual wholesale and discount options such as eBay, there is only one trusted stockist that we could find.

Amazon currently sells one month’s supply at a price of £19.95 with free delivery. As there are few alternatives, we can take this to be the price that you would have to pay if you were to purchase it.

The seller first listed Hoodia Patch on Amazon at the start of the new 2014 year, and so this is not a listing which has been around since the 2011 change in regulations but rather one that has only recently been created. This is probably why there are very few alternative places to buy – all other sources of the patches could well have dried up since 2011. Bear in mind, therefore, that you may not be able to buy as many packets of the patches as you want over a longer period of time.

Overall Verdict

When it comes to reaching a verdict on a diet pill or supplement of this kind, normally the process would be to take a look at all of the information which has been discovered and then come to a conclusion based on that evidence. Unfortunately, due to the fact that there is not much information available at all about Hoodia Patch, this is not something that is as possible as we would normally expect. This brings up a whole range of problems, not least of which is the fact that we cannot be sure about anything that we say in regards to the patches – without all of the information at our fingertips, we cannot say whether the patches work or not, or even what is in them.

This brings us to a question which must be answered first of all, before we go any further: would you really want to buy and put on your skin a product which you do not know anything about, particularly one which has faced advertising bans due to false claims? With no way of knowing what is in the patches until you buy them and take a look at the actual packet, there is no way to be sure of whether there may be allergy concerns or strong side effects associated with them. If you do decide to buy the patches and give them a try, then our first and most important piece of advice to you would be to read the packet as carefully as possible. Take a look at the ingredients which are listed on it, check them out online, and know what you are dealing with before you get started with using them.

As for the clinical evidence which does exist, it is very much inconclusive. When you only have one study carried out on animals and one study carried out on less than ten people, it is clear that the evidence cannot at all be trusted. Rather than final clinical proof, all that exists for hoodia is the basis of the beginning of clinical research – a platform which should be used to investigate the plant further. Until such a time as more clinical work is done, we cannot say for certain that hoodia will have anything to do with weight loss or appetite control – and we certainly cannot say for sure what kind of side effects you might experience as a result of using it.

What all of this boils down to, in the end, is a product which we cannot recommend in good conscience. The straw that broke the camel’s back comes in the form of the fact that the company are not reachable if you need to get in touch with them – and in fact, we do not even know the name of the manufacturers (read our Company Behind Hoodia Patch article). Again, this may be something which can be read on the packet once you have purchased the patches, but if you then find out that they have a bad reputation it will already be too late to return them. Our verdict on this one is to stay away – trust the regulatory bodies when they say that something cannot be sold as a weight loss product.

Overall: 25/100
