Kinetica Thermo 5 Review
Kinetica Thermo 5 is a diet pill, marketed as a “weight management” system, produced by Kinetica Sports, originating from Ireland and moving over to the UK.
Claimed weight loss benefits
Kinetica Thermo 5 is claimed to have “thermogenic” and “metabolism stimulating” properties. It also claims to have hormone and enzyme support complexes, likely referring to gut hormone levels, which often play a role in determination of hunger. Product descriptions on the websites of other retailers also often refer to appetite suppression.
How Kinetica Thermo 5 Works
Kinetica Thermo 5 claims to be a “5-stage system” containing “researched energy and weight management ingredients”. Ingredients are listed generally as a “thermogenic and metabolism stimulator complex”, a “hormone and enzyme support complex”, and an “antioxidant support system”. The complete list of ingredients within these subsections is listed later in this article, but the main ingredients within these complexes include some common non-essential amino acids, their intermediates and compounds, and other diet pill regulars such as bitter orange (for more information on bitter orange please see our Bitter Orange article).
The product description on the retailer website Bodyactive Nation states that mechanisms used by Kinetica Thermo 5 include those to curb appetite to keep you from suffering cravings. The description also states that “enzymes help with transport of other ingredients in the formula”. This is pseudoscience, since enzymes do not play roles in transport (that is left to transport proteins, such as serum albumin found in blood serum).
Kinetica Thermo 5 contains a lot of ingredients that are thought to be “thermogenic”, i.e. they might speed up your weight loss by preventing fat build up, by burning excess energy sources producing heat, rather than allowing them to be stored as adipose tissue (fat cells). There are also claims of included ingredients being appetite suppressants by many different companies that include them in their products. These claims are backed up on the most part by clinical trials, but they are usually not carried out at a particularly high standard or for a particularly long period of time.
Key Kinetica Thermo 5 Ingredients
There are many ingredients included in Kinetica Thermo 5, and the sheer volume of different ingredients is enough to confuse anyone, but the main active ingredient appears to be bitter orange extract. There are many well-known diet pill staples, such as green tea, cayenne, guarana and bitter orange peel (read our articles on many of these ingredients on our website). As well as many other, less well-known ingredients, and the fillers included in the pills. The complete list is as follows (values taken from the manufacturer’s website):
Thermogenic Complex (517.5mg):
Metabolism Stimulator (502.5mg):
Hormone Matrix (290mg):
Enzyme Complex Support (40.9mg):
– Vitamin B6 [1800% RDA] (25.2mg)
– Vitamin B5 [208% RDA] (12.5mg)
– Vitamin B3 [16% RDA] (2.5mg)
– Vitamin B12 [20 000% RDA] (0.5mg)
– Biotin [400% RDA] (0.2mg)
Anti-oxidant Support (81.3mg):
– Fennel Seed Powder (40mg)
– Ginger Ground Powder (40mg)
– Black Pepper Extract (1.2mg)
– Folic Acid [20% RDA] (40μg)
There have been two major trials regarding L-carnitine, an important ingredient of Kinetica Thermo 5. One trial was conducted on cats, with more of a veterinary emphasis, with no real interest in human L-carnitine metabolism, and onewas in young healthy men. The results were fairly conclusive that increase in loading of L-carnitine on muscle will increase energy expenditure (“boost” fat metabolism), although the trial in human males proved to be inconclusive with regards to obese individuals in terms of implications to health, so further research into the drugs’ effect in obese users would be needed.
Other clinical trials carried out include one on green tea, which proved that there was a statistically insignificant resultant weight loss from supplementation with green tea. This means that it was unlikely to be clinically unimportant (i.e. it does not produce enough of a weight loss to prove that it causes anything beyond that which natural variance would produce in the population studied).
A summary of clinical trials on bitter orange extracts was compiled in the International Journal of Medical Sciences by Stohs et al. The data compiled showed that bitter orange does in fact increase fat breakdown metabolism and energy expenditure, resulting in contribution to weight loss.
When looking to try a new weight loss supplement, it helps to know whether it has any clinical validity. Not only will this help you to know if it works, it also helps to highlight any potential side effects that can be experienced. There are a number of studies on the active ingredients of Kinetica Thermo 5, although many of them are not carried out to a very high standard.
One trial was conducted on healthy young men, and was undertaken at the University of Nottingham. The trial found a significant increase in energy expenditure and decrease in body fat accumulation. The trial involved 1.36g of L-carnitine use, but Kinetica Thermo 5 contains only 250mg. This is a significant dosage difference, and so without data released by the product manufacturer, we cannot be sure that this lower dosage will be anywhere near as, if at all, effective compared to the experimental dosage.
There is much debate surrounding the effectiveness of green tea as an aid to slimming. Often there are claims from manufacturers that green tea is a wonder substance, which will decrease body weight significantly and fast. This has not been shown to be true. A systematic review carried out by Jurgens et al., reviewed the scientific literature regarding the clinical data for green tea used as a weight loss aid. It found that most trials showed a small, but medically irrelevant increase in body fat reduction, which could not be significantly discriminated from the natural variance in the population. This means that while green tea may have some small effect on weight loss, its result will not be significant enough that you can use it without increased levels of exercise and decreased calorific intake.
A summary of clinical trials was conducted by Stohs et al., collecting and interpreting the data on 23 trials, both published and unpublished, with regards to use of bitter orange to aid weight loss. The data compiled suggested that bitter orange can have a significant enough effect on increased energy expenditure (through increased thermogenesis etc.) to produce a significant weight loss. However, there is not enough data long term to prove that it is safe to use. There are concerns with its similarity to other banned products and this may lead to its use being stopped in the near future.
Kinetica Thermo 5 Side Effects
The company provides very little information as to the side effects, and so we have looked at those for the most active ingredients, such as bitter orange and green tea. Kinetica Thermo 5 contains a lot of different ingredients, and as such you would expect a lot of potential side effects. There are dangers surrounding bitter orange, such as danger of increased blood pressure, links to heart attacks and links to strokes. There are also the dangers of taking in too much caffeine, present in green tea.
Despite its proven effectiveness, bitter orange has been linked to many adverse side effects, due to its stimulant properties. These include heart attack, stroke, increased blood pressure and other vascular and cardiovascular problems. There is a strong similarity between the chemicals in bitter orange extract and those in ephedra. Ephedra is a banned substance. The National Institutes of Health states that there is no evidence as of yet that bitter orange is any safer to use than ephedra. If you notice any minor side effects of taking this pill then please contact your doctor immediately as left unattended they could lead to one of these more major problems.
There are very few side effects linked to green tea consumption specifically, and they are more to do with the consumption of caffeine, which is present in green tea. High levels of caffeine intake can cause side effects such as fast heart rate, anxiety, depression, insomnia, nausea, restlessness, increased urination, and many more. Ensure that while you are taking these pills you are not also taking in so much caffeine from elsewhere that you do not go over your recommended daily allowance. For more information, visit this Medline Plus article.
This supplement contains 500% of your recommended daily allowance of chromium. While a little extra chromium is not usually linked to too many adverse effects, excessive amounts of chromium can lead to stomach problems, hypoglycaemia (be careful if you are diabetic, this drug is likely not suitable), liver damage, kidney damage and irregular heartbeat. If you take this supplement please try to avoid all other unnecessary intake of chromium, otherwise it may result in some rather extreme side effects. For more information, visit this WebMd article.
How to Use
Kinetica Thermo 5 is taken as a pill. The product ships as a 120-pill container, which is enough for 30 days use, 4 tablets should be taken daily. The tablets should be taken orally. There are two ways you can take Kinetica Thermo 5, which depends on if you use it with exercise or not.
The manufacturers’ retail site for Kinetica Thermo 5 states that if you are training whilst using their product, you should take 4 tablets all at once before the training session. There is no indication of how much time before the session you should take them, so it can be presumed that this means immediately before.
If you are taking this supplement without exercise, then you should take 2 tablets on an empty stomach before either breakfast or lunch, and two on an empty stomach 4-5 hours later, before your evening meal. Given the manufacturers’ background however, they recommend that you take the product and exercise, as their entire brand is centred on sports. If you do not wish to exercise there may be better alternatives to Kinetica Thermo 5, which you can read about on our website.
This supplement contains many ingredients that surpass the recommended daily allowances simply by taking the pills alone, without any extra input from your everyday diet. These include chromium, vitamin B variants and biotin. Many of these will simply pass in your urine, but substances such as chromium can have some severe side effects in excess. You should consult a doctor before taking this supplement if you have been diagnosed with diabetes as chromium is believed to have the potential to alter blood glucose levels.
The National Institutes of Health recommends that pregnant women do not take supplements that contain bitter orange, due to the uncertainty surrounding its safety. The side effects that may be caused by bitter orange are severe, and although claims about them have not been scientifically confirmed yet, there is a likelihood based on similarities to other banned substances that the dangers are very real.
Who Makes It?
Kinetica Sports, originating in Ireland, with the Head Office now being UK based, produce Kinetica Thermo 5. The company was started as an offshoot of the dairy industry in Ireland. The parent company produce whey protein products, which are commonly used in conjunction with fitness and weight training. The offshoot that is Kinetica Sports was created in 2009. The parent company owns one of the largest cheese factories in Europe, according to the ‘Heritage’ section of the Kinetica website. Kinetica claims that this connection to their farmer-owned parent company gives them experience and credibility in their field, however they seem to have no mention of any direct link to research institutes of their own. The parent company has apparently been producing whey isolate products for over 30 years.
Kinetica have partnered with many sporting teams, such as Bradford Bulls, Hampshire Cricket, London Irish and Triathlon Ireland. They have a strong sporting focus as their main marketing approach. The Kinetica Thermo 5 product is one of only two weight control products offered by Kinetica. The other product is called Kinetica CLA Lean, and retails at £29.99 for one month’s supply (slightly cheaper than Kinetica Thermo 5). There is less information provided about this product, but all product s in the Kinetica range are very sports orientated in the way they are marketed, and this product is no different.

There are a number of online retailers of Kinetica Thermo 5. These include amazon.co.uk, performancefoods.co.uk, and a number of other smaller sites, including the website of the business behind Kinetica Thermo 5 itself, kineticasports.com.
The manufacturers’ website is the most expensive retailer at £34.99, but also the most trustworthy, as you are getting the product directly from the source, meaning it won’t have been tampered with. Kinetica Thermo 5 costs £26.99 from performancefoods.co.uk. Whilst cheaper than some when the multi-buy offers are calculated, performacefoods.co.uk is not a particularly well-known brand, which may make people dubious of buying from them.
