PhenBurn 750 Review

PhenBurn 750 is identical to PhenBurn 375 apart from an addition of an extra 37.5mg of Phentrimine. It has been marketed as the high strength version of the weight loss supplement. Though it is considerably more expensive, scientific evidence suggests that Acacia Rigidula (Phentrimine) assists in fat oxidation and suppresses the appetite. The ingredients of the two proprietary mixtures as well as the other main components do seem to have weight loss effects according to clinical studies. However, the manufacturer does not disclose the exact composition of Phentrimine and Xantrimine, and no independent studies on the product as a whole have been conducted.

PhenBurn 750 Claimed weight loss benefits

The increased dosage of Phentrimine is claimed to accentuate appetite suppression and fat breakdown. The supplement as a whole is purported to act as a thermogenic fat burner, restrict hunger cravings, and intensify energy. eBody claim that it assists in the fat oxidation process, increases energy and alertness, and overall boosts the metabolism. They especially insist on the effectiveness of Phentrimine and Xantrimine, due to a calculated choice of the right ingredients and their quantities.

How PhenBurn 750 Works

woman_measuring_weight_loss_538
PhenBurn 750 incorporates ingredients that have been claimed to induce weight loss promoting effects. Cissus Quadrangularis seems to heighten antioxidant levels, promoting fat oxidation. eBody’s Xantrimine allegedly acts as an appetite suppressant, and complements the product’s Caffeine content in increasing energy levels and alertness. The substantial amount of Caffeine contributes towards the supplement’s appetite suppressing effect. The Phentrimine (or Acacia Rigidula) dosage purportedly stimulates the breakdown of lipids by way of the activity of its trace amines. L-Carnitine is known for its participation in fatty acid metabolism, and Conjugated Linoleic Acid seems to increase lean muscle mass.

Cissus Quadrangularis (CQSF)
Preliminary research is considering the effectiveness of Cissus Quadrangularis (CQSF) in decreasing the likelihood of metabolic syndrome. Conditions that are potentially combated by CQSF extract include obesity (abdominal fat), high fasting glucose levels, insulin resistance and high cholesterol levels. According to studies, CQSF seems to be able to regulate the levels of antioxidants in the body, thus promoting fat oxidation. It seems to improve insulin sensitivity and keep blood sugar levels down. Finally, one study reported that a particular formulation of CQSF induced weight loss, and expressed the hypothesis of its appetite suppressing properties.

Xantrimine (Kola nut, Guarana seed, Green Tea Extract Polyphenols)
Xantrimine is a compound made up of xanthine alkoids from Kola nut, Guarana seed extract and Green Tea extract polyphenols (EGCG). The kola nut contains two alkaloids which help combat fatigue (Theobromine) and suppress hunger. It contains Caffeine, which is reputed to have weight loss benefits and suppress the appetite. Gurarana Seed contains Guaranine, a molecule similar to Caffeine. It is said to have antioxidant and antimicrobial capabilities. The Polyphenols present in Green Tea, notably Epigallocatechin-3-Gallate (EGCG) seem to reduce body weight and adipose tissue mass according to animal studies.

1, 2, 7 Trimethylxathine (Caffeine)
By improving focus and awareness, Caffeine can promote energy expenditure. Furthermore, Caffeine can reportedly affect antioxidant and blood lipid levels, and participate in thermogenesis by inhibiting the absorption of fatty acids. It has also been shown in animal studies to reduce leptin (the ‘satiety’ hormone) levels and to have an anti-inflammatory effect. Caffeine also seems to prevent subsequent weight gain after a calorie shifting diet.

Phentrimine (Acacia Rigidula)
Phentrimine (not to be confused with Phentermine) is a proprietary complex containing Acacia Rigidula. The weight loss benefits of Acacia Rigidula extract are mainly due to its most active compounds, trace amines, some of which are similar to Amphetamines, which have been used to promote weight loss for their appetite suppressing effects. Indeed, adrenergic amine compounds are claimed to stimulate beta-receptors to increase lipolysis (the breakdown of lipids), accelerate the metabolic rate and decrease the appetite.

L-Carnitine
L-Carnitine is the biologically active form of Carnitine, an ammonium compound naturally synthesised from amino acids. It participates in the metabolism of fatty acids in the mitochondria (‘the powerhouses of the cells’): it transports fat to the cells, transforming it into energy. Furthermore, L-Carnitine, especially its Acetyl ester, can increase energy levels by producing Creatine, Phosphocreatine and Adenosine nucleotides in the brain.

Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA)
According to many animal studies and some human studies, daily CLA supplementation seems to improve the lean muscle mass to body fat ratio, and decrease fat deposition. It appears to act as an anti-oxidant and an anti-catabolite, by aiding the passage of fatty acids and glucose through muscle cell membranes instead of fat tissue. Studies have suggested that CLA can increase insulin sensitivity (insulin regulates the metabolism of carbohydrates and fat). However, research on CLA is contradictory – a review concluded that CLA has a limited effect on body composition and no effect on plasma lipids in humans. Lastly, the dosage in PhenBurn 750 is very low compared to some other dietary supplements (only 5mg), so its influence may be limited.

Key Ingredients

woman_choosing_diet_pill_538
PhenBurn 750’s main ingredients are Xantrimine (a blend of Kola nut, Guarana extract and Green Tea), Cissus Quadrangularis, Caffeine, Phentrimine (a blend of compounds and amines from Acacia Rigidula extract), L-Carnitine and Conjugated Linoleic Acid. eBody claim to have optimally dosed the ingredients in their proprietary blends to maximise weight loss results. As no independent studies have been conducted on them, an analysis of their components will have to suffice. Cissus Quadrangularis, Xantrimine and Caffeine are the most potently dosed ingredients, and their main effects seem to be respectively fat oxidation, appetite suppression and promoting energy expenditure.

Cissus Quadrangularis (CQSF) – 300mg
Extract of Cissus Quadrangularis (CQSF) has been used for many reasons. These include the promotion of bone and tissue healing (as an analgesic to prevent the thinning of bone), to treat infections (as an anabolic), and to promote weight loss. Animal and in vitro studies show that it is indeed effective to facilitate the healing of bone (helps avoid osteoporosis for instance), and some human studies justify its use in weight management supplements. Its identifiable constituents include steroids, flavonoids, stilbenes, iridoids, triterpenes and gallic acid derivatives, but these have not yet been related to any specific physiological effects.

Xantrimine (Kola nut, Guarana, Green Tea) – 300mg
Kola nut extract is derived from the seeds of two main tropical Cola species. It is mostly used as a flavouring ingredient. It contains Caffeine and Theobromine, and therefore induces the pharmacological/toxicological effects those substances are known for, such as alertness, energy, and fat oxidation. Guarana extract has been shown to have >antioxidant and radical-scavenging (antibacterial) properties due to its content in Caffeine, catechins (including Epicatechin Gallate) and polyphenols. Similarly, Green Tea extract contains Epicatechin Gallate (EGCG), which improves plasma lipid concentrations and reduces adipose tissue. It is suggested that EGCG participates in adipogenesis, lipolysis, beta-oxidation and thermogenesis in white adipose tissue.

1, 2, 7 Trimethylxathine (Caffeine) – 250mg
Caffeine is the most habitually consumed psychostimulant. It has an antagonistic effect on A2A adenosine receptors in the brain, and so prevents Adenosine receptors from slowing the activity of nerve cells. It has been thoroughly researched and found to have performance benefits and ergogenic value. It increases physical endurance, enhances mental alertness, promotes concentration, and it can be effectively used as a short term fatigue suppressor. Research has recently focused on its weight loss capabilities: it seems to reduce the risks for developing the metabolic syndrome by the medium of its thermogenic and oxidative qualities.

Phentrimine (Acacia Rigidula) – 75mg
Acacia Rigidula extract comes from the Blackbrush Acacia, a rare plant found in the Southern U. S. and Mexico. According to research, it contains over 40 different types of alkoids (agents known to affect the nervous system), such as N-methyl-β-Phenethylamine, Tyramine, N-Methyltyramine, and Hordenine. These are called trace amines, and are structurally similar to neurotransmitters like Dopamine, Serotonin and Noradrenaline. Alkoids display beta-2, 3 adrenergic receptor agonist activity: this means that by stimulating beta-2, 3 receptors, alkoids promote an increased metabolic rate and participate in the process of lipolysis (the breakdown of lipids). Acacia Rigidula has also been shown to increase oxygen consumption.

L-Carnitine – 100mg
L-Carnitine is a compound that participates in both anabolic and catabolic pathways in cellular metabolism. It is an amino acid composed of Lysine and Methionine. As far as scientists can tell, its function is to carry activated acetate and fatty acids across the mitochondrial membrane of cells. It therefore enhances mitochondria membrane efficiency and benefits aerobic cellular respiration. Furthermore, an animal study has shown that it can decrease lipid percentage and increase protein percentage, perhaps because of its antioxidant capabilities. Finally, its Acetyl ester promotes energy levels by increasing the levels of particular neurotransmitters in the brain.

Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) – 5mg
Conjugated Linoleic Acids are a family of (at least) 28 isomers of linoleic acid (an essential fatty acid that cannot be synthesised from any other foods but meat and dairy products). CLA isomers work in various ways: they inhibit the proliferation and differentiation of preadipocytes in cells (by inducing apoptosis, or programmed cell death), decrease amounts of triglyceride in the body, and increase sensitivity to insulin. These activities amount to anti-obesity effects. Indeed, Triglyceride is a blood lipid that participates in the transference of adipose fat and blood glucose from the liver – increased levels of Triglycerides are an effect of refined carbohydrate consumption.

Clinical Studies

couple_research_diet_pills_538
There have been no independent clinical studies on PhenBurn 750. As for its components, the weight loss power of each ingredient has been studied more or less thoroughly. There is substantial evidence supporting the use of Caffeine in dietary supplements, as many human studies have been conducted. In the cases of the other ingredients however, animal studies are much more common, though promising human studies can be found. Ingredients have been found to have influence on the metabolic rate, body fat mass (or adipose tissue mass), insulin sensitivity, levels of Triglycerides and lipids, resting energy expenditure and even oxygen consumption.

Cissus Quadrangularis (CQSF)
One study examined the antioxidant effects of Cissus Quadrangularis (CQSF) in rats with experimentally induced diabetes. Three different doses were administered: 50, 100 and 200 mg/kg body weight. Results showed that CQSF supplementation combated the deleterious effects of diabetes by improving insulin sensitivity, reducing liver damage, reducing oxidative changes and bringing the level of antioxidants back to normal. These changes occurred in a dose-dependent manner. This shows that CQSF supplementation can modulate the antioxidant defence system, and prevent among others hyperglycaemia and elevated lipid peroxidation.
Furthermore, a human study analysed the effects of a proprietary extract of CQSF and a proprietary formulation of CQSF (CORE). 168 obese and overweight people were given two daily doses of CQSF, CORE or placebo, while asked to maintain their normal amount of physical activity. Both supplementations brought about significant decrease in weight, total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, Triglycerides and fasting blood sugar levels. Furthermore, the increase in plasma 5-HT and creatinine suggests appetite suppressing properties and the ability to increase lean muscle mass.

Xantrimine (Kola nut, Guarana, Green Tea)
There are no independent clinical trials on Xantrimine as it is a proprietary blend, but its ingredients have been studied more or less thoroughly with regard to weight loss. One study investigated the efficacy of EGCG in reducing obesity by supplementing diet-induced mice with the catechin for 8 weeks. The mice having received EGCG lost weight and adipose tissue mass. Finally, a study examined the antioxidant and antibacterial activities of Guarana seed extracts (Paullinia Cupana). The contents of Caffeine and catechins (Catechin, Epicatechin, Epicatechin Gallate) were measured by high performance liquid chromotography, and the contents of total phenols and proanthocyanidins using UV spectrophotometry. The study concluded that seed extracts of Guarana possess strong antimicrobial and antioxidant properties.

1, 2, 7 Trimethylxathine (Caffeine)
In this study, the aim was to examine the effect of a Green Tea-Caffeine combination in overweight people after body weight loss. 76 overweight and moderately obese subjects were put on a low energy diet for 4 weeks, followed by a period of weight maintenance during which they received the Green tea-Caffeine mixture (270 mg Green Tea and 150 mg Caffeine) or placebo. Subjects lost an average of 5.9 kg (13 lbs). Satiety was increased in all subjects supplemented with the mixture, and Leptin levels were decreased in women. During the first 4 weeks, weight loss results were accentuated in users with a high habitual Caffeine intake compared with low Caffeine consumers. However, during the weight maintenance period low Caffeine consumers lost more weight than subjects with a higher tolerance to Caffeine. Therefore, high Caffeine intake is associated with weight loss through the processes of thermogenesis and fat oxidation, and suppressed Leptin levels in women, especially low Caffeine consumers.

Phentrimine (Acacia Rigidula)
This study compares the mental and physical effects of 4 different supplementations: firstly the commercial supplement FastinR-RX (containing Acacia alkaloids, Synephrine, and Theobromine to name a few), 250mg of Acacia Rigidula, 300mg of Caffeine Anhydrous, and Placebo. 10 men participated in 4 test sessions in fasted condition, and were assessed in terms of their metabolic activity, hemodynamic activity (blood circulation) and psychological mood. The study found that, compared with Caffeine, Acacia Rigidula promotes significant increases in resting energy expenditure (increases in hemodynamic measures even 3 hours after ingestion). The Acacia Rigidula dose led to an increase in the resting metabolic rate by 12%. It also seemed to enhance ventilator efficiency. The two compounds (Acacia Rigidula and Caffeine) therefore exert different mechanisms, but they are considered by the researchers to be effective alternatives to stimulant-heavy dietary supplements. The Acacia Rigidula dose led to an increase in the resting metabolic rate by 12%. It also seemed to enhance ventilator efficiency.

L-Carnitine
A study aimed at determining the effects of chronic L-Carnitine and carbohydrate supplementation on muscle total Carnitine (TC) content, and exercise metabolism and performance in humans. Fourteen healthy male volunteers performed 3 exercise tests, separated by 12 weeks each. Muscle biopsies were taken at rest and after the exercise. After the first session, the paticipants were either supplemented with 80g of Carnitine (Control group) or 2g of L-Carnitine-L-Tartrate and 80g of Carnitine twice daily for 24 weeks. Muscle TC was greatly improved in the second group. The Carnitine group also utilised less muscle glycogen and had a lesser muscle lactate content compared to the Control group. Work output was significantly increased. To conclude, L-Carnitine supplementation results in muscle glycogen sparing during low intensity exercise and in a better matching of glycolytic, pyruvate dehydrogenase complex (PDC) and mitochondrial flux during high intensity exercise. Performance is consequently improved.

Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA)
This study examined the effects of CLA supplementation on body fat mass in humans. 60 overweight or obese volunteers were divided into 5 groups and received either placebo or different quantities of CLA daily over a period of 12 weeks. Body composition was measured using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry technology. Though 8 participants withdrew from the study, this was not due to adverse effects from CLA particularly. The study found that a higher reduction in body fat mass (BFM) occurred in the CLA goups than the placebo group. High doses did not seem to affect BFM much more than lower doses. According to this study therefore, Conjugated Linoleic Acid may reduce BFM in humans.

Results

Weight Loss Power: 65/100

Certain key ingredients have been shown to induce weight loss according to clinical studies. The second study on Cissus Quadrangularis mentioned above reports particularly promising weight loss results; the study on CLA also concludes that it has a tangible effect on body fat mass. However, the fact that PhenBurn 750 contains these ingredients is not enough to confirm that it can induce similar results. Moreover, the daily dosages used in most studies are far superior to the quantities included in the supplement.
Speed of results: 75/100

There is no scientific evidence to prove that the supplement as a whole produces fast weight loss results. However, some ingredients have quick effects according to studies. Caffeine and Green Tea supplementation for 8 weeks brought about an average weight loss of 13lbs in subjects in a clinical study. In addition, participants supplemented with Cissus Quadrangularis for 6 weeks experienced a reduction of their Body Mass Index by 5.4%.
Appetite Suppression: 75/100

PhenBurn’s effect as an appetite suppressant seems solidly reliable. There is scientific evidence that Caffeine, Kola nut, and Acacia Rigidula all tend to suppress the appetite. Caffeine seems to decrease Leptin levels (the satiety hormone) in women, and PhenBurn’s Caffeine content is high (for Kola nut, Green Tea and Xantrimine also contain Caffeine). Acacia Rigidula seems to boost the levels of Plasma 5-hydroxytryptamine and Creatinine, which suggests appetite suppression properties.
Long Term Results: 60/100

There is little evidence to suggest that PhenBurn 750 promotes substantial long term weight loss. However, with a healthy diet and exercise, it seems to be able to induce gradual and moderate weight loss in some people. There are enough reliable ingredients in the supplement to suggest this, but as the exact quantities of some of the ingredients are not disclosed, results cannot be foreseen with any certainty.
Safety: 60/100

Though eBody claim adverse reactions to the supplement are rare, they neglect to name any particular side effects. Some ingredients have not been sufficiently tested in humans. Guarana seed (from Xantrimine) mixed with Ephedra or Synephrine can allegedly be quite dangerous. Furthermore, not enough is known about Acacia Rigidula (some of its alkoids may be risky) or CLA to condone their consumption in large quantities. Finally, the stimulant content may be too high for some, and the supplement is not to be complemented with additional caffeinated beverages.
Value for money: 55/100

The additional benefits of PhenBurn 750 relative to PhenBurn 375 seem to be disproportionate to the extra £10 on the price tag (you are only paying for 37.5mg more Phentrimine). The price on the official eBody website is the same as that on Amazon or Ebay: £34.95 for 60 tablets. That said, Phentrimine seems to be scientifically justified in a weight loss supplement, so perhaps PhenBurn 750 is worth the increased price. In addition, because of the high Caffeine content, some stimulant sensitive users may not feel the need to take 2 tablets a day, meaning that a bottle would last them 2 months.

PhenBurn 750 Side Effects

woman_with_stomach_Ache_538
eBody do not specify what side effects the supplement may have, though they acknowledge that they are rare. In a few exceptional cases (in stimulant sensitive people) an excessive buzz and jitters can been felt because of PhenBurn 750’s Caffeine content. eBody do advise users to test their tolerance before proceeding to 2 tablets a day, and halving intake is always an option for those looking for more moderate effects. The supplement can interfere with the sleep cycle if it is taken less than 4 hours before sleep, as it induces restlessness and energy.

Cissus Quadrangularis (CQSF)
Based on the studies to date, Cissus Quadrangularis extracts appear to be safe and free of adverse effects at the doses commonly used. It does contain a wide variety of chemical constituents including steroids, flavonoids, stilbenes, iridoids, triterpenes and gallic acid derivatives, though these do not seem to engender any physiological or psychological side effects. However, more reputable human studies and especially a better standardisation of extracts (lacking today due to the multiple different variations of the extract) are needed.

Xantrimine (Kola nut, Guarana, Green Tea)
According to a long history of safe Kola nut extract consumption, mainly in cola-type beverages, kola nut does not seem to induce any side effects, though repeated oral exposure has not been studied. Guarana seed seems to induce few side effects in humans, though in high doses it can provoke the same types of effects as too much Caffeine. However, animal studies have shown that Guarana seed extract in combination with equal quantities of Ephedra and other substances can be dangerous. The most common side effects of Green Tea consumption are stomach upset, diarrhoea, tremors, restlessness, constipation and nausea.

1, 2, 7 Trimethylxathine (Caffeine)
The most common side effects of Caffeine are an increased heart rate, anxiety, difficulty sleeping, nausea, tremors, depression and urinating more often. Withdrawal symptoms include drowsiness, headaches, nausea, irritability and vomiting. Large amounts of Caffeine can lead to calcium deficiency and a thinning of the bones (osteoporosis). Lastly, an animal study has shown that acute supplementation of Caffeine may worsen liver damage in cases of high inflammation.

Phentrimine (Acacia Rigidula)
The most common side effects of Acacia Rigidula extract are jitters, dizziness, stomach upset and post-exercise crashes. However, very little is known about the effects of consistent and long-lasting supplementation in humans. High intake of raw Acacia Rigidula has resulted in cases of nervous system damage in animals. Indeed, the risks of over-stimulation of adrenergic receptors are another issue: effects of this include digestive issues, anxiety, depression, trouble sleeping and memory impairment. Another worrying aspect is its Nicotine content. Furthermore, Acacia extract is usually not a direct extract from the plant at all, due to the relative expense of its extraction and processing compared with the costs of producing its known alkaloids in a laboratory. The manufacturer can therefore adjust the quantities and types of alkaloids as it sees fit. Finally, the sheer quantity of alkaloids in Acacia Rigidula is cause for concern, for they are not all naturally present in our diet.

L-Carnitine
Side effects from the consumption of L-Carnitine may arise due to its main active ingredient, Levocarnitine. These include headaches, nausea, abdominal cramps, diarrhoea and elevated blood pressure. The body seems to get used to L-Carnitine supplementation, as these effects often desist after a few weeks. Less common side effects include fever, dizziness, a fast heartbeat, depression and a swelling of extremities.

Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA)
There is a lack of reputable human studies on CLA supplementation to assert with any certainty that it is safe. Possible side effects include nausea or an upset stomach. A study has claimed that these unwanted effects can be avoided by consuming protein at the same time as CLA (the example it gives is low-fat milk). Moreover, they tend to subside after two weeks or so. The studies conducted on humans and CLA report no adverse side effects.

How To Use

eBody instructs customers to take 1 PhenBurn 750 capsule twice a day before or with food. Take capsules 6 hours apart and do not consume 4 hours before sleep. Begin by taking 1 capsule once per day for the first 7 days to assess tolerance. Drink at least 8 glasses (230ml) of water per day. Never exceed 2 capsules a day. While taking the supplement, limit your consumption of Caffeine. To get the most out of the supplement, the manufacturer recommends you eat between 5 and 6 small meals a day. You should limit your carbohydrate and sugar intake. Finally, you should remove fast food and fizzy drinks from your diet for 6-8 weeks, while you are taking PhenBurn 750.

Do not take if you are under 18, pregnant or lactating, sensitive to stimulants or taking prescription drugs (including antidepressant medication). Don’t take if you have a known medical condition, such as cardiovascular disease or high blood pressure. Discontinue use if any adverse reactions occur.

Who Makes PhenBurn 750

eBody Ltd is a supplier and manufacturer of dietary supplements based in the Leicester. It originated in 2004 as a distributor of sports and nutritional supplements. In 2011 the company turned towards manufacturing their own supplements. It owns three brands as of March 2014: T5 Max Strength, a reportedly successful slimming aid launched in 2011; PhenBurn 375, the predecessor of PhenBurn 750 (containing eBody’s first proprietary herbal formula Phentrimine and the Xantrimine blend), both launched at the end of 2012; and T5 Hardcore, a more potent version of T5 Max Strength launched mid-2013.

The eBody website does not provide details about the company’s address or contact information. All products are manufactured in a FDA approved facility which has been cGMP certified by the National Science Foundation. The 14 day money back guarantee offered by the manufacturer is not very useful, for the packaging of products needs to be intact for reimbursement.

Where To Buy

where_to_buy_538
You can buy PhenBurn 750 on the eBody website, on Amazon UK and Ebay UK. 1 month’s supply (60 tablets) costs £34.95 from all three retailers, who offer free UK delivery. It is not available on the high street. It may be more prudent to purchase it from eBody.co.uk, for the company offers a 14 day money back guarantee, though the packaging and seals must be unbroken to be accepted. eBody accept orders from Monday to Friday before 2pm. Most buyers on Amazon seem satisfied with the customer service and speed with which the product arrived (possibility of One-day delivery).

Overall Verdict

Ultimately, PhenBurn seems to be a moderately effective dietary supplement that suppresses hunger and provides an energy boost due to its high Caffeine content. The fat burning properties that eBody claim the supplement has (and this even more so than PhenBurn 375) seem to be confirmed by scientific evidence for most part. However, some ingredients have been insufficiently researched, and any long term effects and results are uncertain. Moreover, the manufacturer does not provide adequate and sufficient information about its proprietary complexes, making the effectiveness of Phentrimine and Xantrimine in the overall supplement hard to discern.
